💛 "The Home and Friend" – 학생이 떠난 후에도 계속되는 진심의 홈스테이

작년 이맘때쯤, 저희 홈스테이 "The Home and Friend"에 밝고 성실한 여학생 한 명이 있었습니다. 캐나다에서 고등학교를 졸업하고, 15개월동안 저희 집에서 머물렀던 아이죠.
그 학생은 지금 중국 대학교에 재학 중입니다. 그런데 놀랍게도 — 아니, 어쩌면 당연한 일인지도 모르겠어요 — 그 학생과는 1년이 넘도록 꾸준히 연락을 주고받고 있습니다.

📱 “삼촌, 잘 지내시죠?”

얼마 전에도 그 학생에게서 카톡이 왔습니다.
한국에서 중국어 자격증도 따고, 아르바이트도 해보고, 가족들과 함께 시간을 보내며 잘 지내고 있다고 말해줬어요.
그리고는 “나중에라도 중국 오시면 꼭 연락 주세요!”라는 따뜻한 말까지.

 

또한, 학생의 어머님께서도 종종 연락을 주시며,
“설아가 캐나다 이야기하면 항상 두 분 너무 좋았다고 말해요”
“워낙 잘 챙겨주셔서 입소문이 났나 봐요~”
라는 말씀을 해주실 때마다, 저희도 마음이 참 따뜻해집니다.

Around this time last year, we had a bright and sincere student staying with us at The Home and Friend.
She had just graduated from high school in Canada and stayed with us for 15 months.
Now, she’s attending a university in China — but surprisingly (or maybe not!), we’ve been staying in touch for over a year since she left.

 

📱 “Uncle, how have you been?”
Not long ago, we received another message from her.
She told us she’s been doing well — studying Chinese, getting certified, working part-time, and spending time with family in Korea.
And with warmth, she added, “If you ever visit China, please reach out!”

Her mother also keeps in touch with us and recently said:

“Whenever Seol-A talks about Canada, she always says you two were amazing.”
“You took such great care of her — I think word is getting around!”

Messages like these truly warm our hearts.
